A sledge hammer is certainly an interesting tool but not as effective as a chain saw and a bic lighter! Generally my method of repairing the silly "leg fell off the bench again syndrome" is to make a batch of corner pieces using the ban saw, bore bit and countersink. I'll set up to make around a dozen at a time and keep them on hand. Once in a while the awsome "white aluminum" bolt shank is worn and stripped which needs replacing anyway, so those are on hand as well...oh yeah, don't forget some good CA glue. These components generally will make the bench suitable for a reasonable amount of time. In any case, here in Minnesota, we never worry about running out of firewood.
