Paul, We have discovered the black Ecsaine from Pianotek which works very well for not only desks but lid logs, bumpers, etc. We've also used it to cover and/or buffer the trim piece above the plate at the stretcher for noise abatement. It is sold by the yard catalog # FEB-223. Anne Anne Garee, Program Director for Piano Technology Florida State University College of Music 122 N. We've got four of them, and they're making a mess. A few months back, I had ordered some Steinway deskframe felt, hoping to use that. Nice, but it's not long enough. I ended up replacing the stuff on one piano with very cheap felt, and that was a mistake -- it already looks like hell. I happen to have a 1/4 yard of Schaff High Quality Key Bushing Cloth #321-1/2 Bulk (Thin), and that looks like it might be good stuff. Kind of expensive, though, for this purpose. Or is that what's needed to withstand years of rubbing? I was also wondering about some kind of re-stringing felt, but not being a rebuilder, I'm not familiar with thicknesses, etc. -- Paul Milesi, RPT Staff Piano Technician Howard University Department of Music Washington, DC
