Why?  if the "magic line" is reached at let-off, you are gaining maximum efficiency of the action, ie, point of maximum friction occurs at the point of least relative motion, and point of maximum efficiency reached at let-off.  If the contact goes above the  magic line, the overall ratio of the action begins to decrease from that point on.
