It will be interesting to compare the Renner Blue Points with Ronsen's Weickert felt hammers (I have some of each on order)... same felt apparently, just a different way of pressing.

Also, I hope we'll be able to get some of these in at least an 11.5mm width, so there's room for a variety of shift positions with 3-string contact.

Over six months of very heavy use and they seem to wear better than any hammer I have used to date. They have become a bit bright with usage, but nothing like regular Blues. I have only had to even out voicing and light crown needling. Rick tells me to treat them like Blues. With only one set I don’t have a lot of feedback to give, but this professor wears out hammers more than anyone, and I can see these getting maybe twice the mileage that the S&S hammers got. And I’m one who usually uses Steinway hammers on Steinway, etc. but these seem so much like the hammers on that 80 year old D I spoke about last year; same shape, feel and sound. There might be something to the “diamond” shape too.

Hi,

Pre-voice like Blues. (Gang file shoulders, etc. per instructions on-line Renner) Generally voice like Blues, but there is less work after the pre-voicing. No lacquer. No ironing. Out of the box they are bright, yet warm and have more “presence” for lack of a better word, after initial voicing. When I say “presence”, it’s like an old amplifier I had that had a “presence” knob. When you increased presence you seemed to have more midrange frequencies. High “sizzle” as Steinway calls it, is no problem, but some crown needling will even out tone as needed. Plenty of power! I wish I had the vocabulary to describe it all. Maybe Vince can write something. On the B they sounded so good that it was almost like taking cotton out of my ears. Clarity was so much better than the S&S I had on. And you could whisper on them, up to FF with a change in color that was not distorted, but different. Gosh Gerry, it’s like describing the taste of salt… <G> Sorry.
