[CAUT] New Renner hammers

Hi,

Pre-voice like Blues. (Gang file shoulders, etc. per instructions on-line Renner) Generally voice like Blues, but there is less work after the pre-voicing. No lacquer. No ironing. Out of the box they are bright, yet warm and have more "presence" for lack of a better word, after initial voicing. When I say "presence", it's like an old amplifier I had that had a "presence" knob. When you increased presence you seemed to have more midrange frequencies. High "sizzle" as Steinway calls it, is no problem, but some crown needling will even out tone as needed. Plenty of power! I wish I had the vocabulary to describe it all. Maybe Vince can write something. On the B they sounded so good that it was almost like taking cotton out of my ears. Clarity was so much better than the S&S I had on. And you could whisper on them, up to FF with a change in color that was not distorted, but different. Gosh Gerry, it's like describing the taste of salt... <G> Sorry.

Very interesting.
What did you have to do to them?  How much work?
Gang filing, pre-voicing prep, post-lacquering, ironing etc?
Out of the box, are they dark (warm),bright (hot) other?
Curious mind(s) would like to know.

All,

Attached is a pic of the brand new Renner Weikert felt "Blue Point" hammer. This is about hammer #35 or so. Vince and I have been testing these for about a year now and they are very good! They have the famous Weikert felt, but are pressed to the classic diamond shape. They are ready for sale now, I believe, and you'll hear more about them in Vegas. I'm NOT a salesman, but as a devoted CAUTee thought you'd like to know.

While it may seem more of the same old "blah, blah, this hammer's the best..." if anyone wants to try them I would definitely give them my endorsement! They sound great and are easy to work with. I'm in the process of putting them on our Hamburg D and two more Bs. Everyone seems to have an opinion about hammers, and I think I've tried about everything, but these work very well on Ds and Bs. I'm not the expert that many of you are, but I've hung a lot of hammers, and rather than try to impress you with anything I "know" let me just offer them to you with a definite "you gotta try these!" attitude, hoping that you may articulate their attributes better than I.
