Sounde like the difference between english measurements and metric?  Hmmm.

As to feeling the diference?  Width of ones fingers?  Wonder if the person in question had both side by side and played them or rather a concieved perception. Again Hmmmm.

   What years are we talking about?  The New York pianos have had a variety of widths through the years. I have had a 1950's model with very narrow sharps, and the Pratt Read keys of the 60's were varied, as well.
