Hello folks,

This announcement came in for posting on the CAUT website:

James Madison University, ANNOUNCEMENT FOR PIANO TECHNICIAN

James Madison University is seeking an experienced and well qualified piano
tuner and technician. The School of Music has an inventory of approximately
144 Steinway pianos, including approximately 48 grands. JMU has been an
"All-Steinway" School since 2005, and the vast majority of the inventory has
been purchased since that time. Thus, the current condition of nearly the
entire inventory is either new or almost new.

The successful applicant should have significant training and expertise, in
maintenance, tuning, rebuilding and repairs of grand pianos. Steinway
certification and training in these areas is a very big plus. Secondarily,
the applicant should have experience in the tuning of and minor repairs on
upright pianos. The applicant should have a minimum of 5 years full-time
experience, either as an institutional/corporate technician/tuner or in
private practice, and should also have ability to work quickly and
precisely, and to communicate well with faculty and staff members.

This is a full-time staff position. Because JMU has an active piano faculty
and because the School of Music hosts a heavy performing schedule of
student, faculty, and guest concerts, the primary focus of this position to
maintain at the highest level the performing pianos and piano faculty studio
pianos. Money is available for help with tuning uprights and practice room
pianos.

James Madison University and its School of Music are located in the
beautiful and historic Shenandoah Valley of northwestern Virginia, and about
120 miles from both Washington, DC and Richmond. JMU is a nationally
top-ranked comprehensive state university, with very high admission
standards, that draws out-of-state students from around the country, and
especially from the Northeast. This past year there were 22,000 applications
for 4,000 freshman/transfer positions. JMU has a full-time faculty of about
900, and about 17,000 full-time students. The School of Music has 45
full-time and 20 part-time faculty members, and 450+ majors. The School also
has highly selective admissions; this year 455 students auditioned for the
110 freshman positions. The School offers B.M., M.M., and D.M.A. degrees,
and is housed in a modern music building with extensive and appropriate
practice, rehearsal and office space, and modern musical and technological
equipment. The new $95 million Forbes Center for Performing, which for the
School contains two recital/concert halls and additional office, rehearsal
and practice facilities, has just opened. James Madison University has the
largest and most prestigious public university music program in Virginia,
and the School of Music's director is always Virginia's representative to
the National Association of Music Executives at State Universities (NAMESU).
The School of Music is an All-Steinway School, and has its own concert
series at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC.

Submit a letter of application, a current CV, and a list of five references
to: Piano Technician Search Committee, School of Music, James Madison
University, 880 S. Main St., MSC 7301, Harrisonburg, VA 22807. The search
process will continue until the position is filled, but priority screening
