The Canon S 5 IS has 2 different close up settings and is a very good camera. If you want something more serious, a digital single lens reflex would be a good choice too, but a lot bulkier. And then you 'll need a close up lens or close up filter. Yes, you could use a magnifier over the lens as this is what close up filters are, high quality magnifiers. Or, you can use a program to crop the picture to get only what you want. All depends on the quality of finished picture you are looking for. For web like this forum, you don't need extra high definition. You will be sizing down the pictures anyway. Before buying a camera, have a look at www.kenrockwell.com .
