[CAUT] Degree?

Jim

When I was at UA, I thought about getting a doctorate in choral conducting. Not that I wanted to pursue that as a career, but I like conducting, and the idea of learning more history, theory, techniques, etc. intrigued me. Then the administrative assistant of the chair of the department said that staff was not allowed to get an advanced degree in the same department in which they worked. In other words, I could get a degree in geography, but not music.

No matter what program or degree you want to pursue, and since you're not looking for a career change, the main question you have to ask yourself is, are you sure you want to do all that work, just "for the fun of it"?

Subject: [CAUT] Degree?

All,

One of the benefits here at BYU is “free” classes for me and for my spouse. Besides taking Basket Weaving 101, Tennis, and other classes for personal enrichment, I was thinking that another degree might be a worthy goal. BYU actually encourages this. Do any of you have this benefit? Any thoughts? Degree possibilities? (Career change not being an option ; > )

Thanks.
