Paul,
Do not, repeat, not, try to knurl these shanks! These are 
carbon fiber, and will very likely split if you try. A tapered 
reamer, or a rat tail file turned counterclockwise, will fit 
the hammer to the shank. I'd also scuff the shank, regardless 
of how they came.
