Jeff Hickey approached me a few months ago about doing something in the way of temperament concerts outside of classes at the Las Vegas Institute. I have been mulling it over, and I think I may get something together. One thing I had in mind was to play four preludes from WTC I, C and C# major, and A and Bflat minor. This gives two pairs, major and minor, with the extremes of key signatures: all naturals, and all accidentals. The C and C# I would play both in the original key and then transposed into the other (each would be played in both C and C#) as an interesting additional wrinkle. I can also play a couple movements of Mozart Sonata in F major K332, which wanders a good bit in Mozartean style (via augmented sixth chords), by no means harmonically static. That's probably all I can do myself in the way of performing (I can sight read these pieces, but have too much other music I need to learn to prepare much else - I have plenty of music of 20th and 21st century under my fingers, but that isn't too helpful). Perhaps others would be willing to perform other repertory. I was thinking mostly in terms of a educational enrichment experience, showing people how music sounds in different tunings, but I don't see why one session couldn't be devoted to an investigation into perceptions and feedback of various sorts. One of which could be to "vote which one you prefer." With the audience unaware of which piano is which until after feedback has been submitted. So if you are interested, and intending to be at Las Vegas, let's plan on trying to make it happen. Others willing to participate in any way - performing on the piano, tuning, making arrangements - are most welcome. Please speak up. " A straight FAC based, WT tuning": how about Kirnberger II? (Just kidding).
