I've been working on a replacement style for the built-in Average style. Thanks to all the volunteer "beta testers" that were willing to give it a try - I've been getting positive feedback from techs as well as clients on this one. I developed this for those technicians that have kept the style on "Average" and not experimented with the custom styles. This allows you to tune without having to make a lot of choices, yet still harness the power of multiple partial matches to calculate a tuning. Just enter in the setpoints, copy it and change the A0 for big pianos and you have two styles to use! I began working on this just before Grand Rapids and was able to set an early version on a Yamaha P22 for the final Verituner class. The goal is a really harmonious resonant blend from bottom to top. Try it and let me know if you can tell a difference - positive, negative or indifferent... All beats are set to 0.0 - notice that there aren't setpoints for either A3 or A4. (This is for the VT100 box - pocket pc directions to follow) A0 6:3 65% / 4:1 35% C#2 6:3 40% / 4:1 60% D2 4:2 30% / 6:3 30% / 3:1 40% D3 4:2 30% / 6:3 30% / 3:1 40% E6 4:2 40% / 2:1 20% / 3:1 40% G7 4:1 30% / 8:1 30% / 3:1 40% G#7 4:1 70% / 8:1 30% C8 4:1 70% / 8:1 30% The core of this temperament is from D2 - E6. Above and below - may be changed to your personal tuning style preference, or room, or size of piano. This style works great with average pianos. The only change I make is to change A0 to: A0 6:3 50% / 12:6 50% for bigger pianos (over 5', or tall uprights) I have two styles saved to make switching between them easy. Why? Just as I felt that there was a positive progression between tuning with my Korg, to tuning with a template tuner, to tuning with a more modern option to tuning with the Verituner. This represents a step forward for me in involving more information being used to calculate a more "resonant" tuning for each individual instrument. It is NOT an attempt to get smoother thirds, or 10ths or 5ths or 6ths or 4ths... but rather a way to find a really nice blend of everything that's going on. Feel free to contact me if you need help loading it in the machine. (directions for pocket pc) A set point for A3/A4 is required - setting the percentage to 1% seems to make it work like the box. (0% caused a problem..) This uses the maximum allowable setpoints, so I had to leave out the G#7 from the box.
