To answer Don M's question, and perhaps provide some useful information to all, regarding Willard Martin's pin source, I inquired of the horse, no less a partner in crime for his profile. Willard used to use the threaded pins that he had custom made in Germany, probably this is the generation in quesiton. He now favors tapered pins in tapered holes, much as a violin peg works. He purchases large quantities in bulk. His source is Lutz Bumgart, www.fortepiano.com If you (Don) are needing only one set though, you may want to contact (and wait patiently) Willard directly. If you only need a few, maybe in the bass, you could try the right size and quality of nail from the local hardware store. Hammer one end flat. Double torch (two aimed at both sides of the pin for quick and hot) the other end and on an anvil create a taper. The tapered pins can be used to replace the old straight threaded pins as the holes were always tapered.
