Probably the most available in the US is called Shellac Thinner (duh)  
or denatured alcohol. From any paint or building supply store. I have  
never seen anything in the US labeled methyl hydrate. I assume it is a  
formulation of methyl alcohol, which gets into drug enforcement  
problems (ingredient in meth).
