I checked Rosamund Harding's book, The Piano-Forte, and it lists a translation of Montal's book into German, with a publication year of 1835, the year before it appeared in Paris. I don't know about those dates - seems odd that a German translation would appear first, though Harding is generally extremely reliable. Perhaps it took a longer time to prepare the French edition, engraving plates and whatnot. In any case, it is clear that Montal's book had wide circulation, and was known through much of the European musical world of the time. There can be no question of his prominence in the practical world of piano tuning and repair, and of the wide dissemination of his writing.
