Hi Tim,

I believe my tool was made before Schaff started carrying them. Would your
core work on the old ones like mine as well?

Jeff,

Your friend bought the redesigned core from me. I thought I sold you one.
It is designed for the Schaff tool. I still have one available if you want
it. $130 plus shipping and it is yours. And yes it works great. There are
some on this list who bought one.

Hi Jeannie,

Yes, that's the one. I've had mine for 15 years or so. It has been acting up
lately, winding the coil on TOP rather than underneath the beckett. There is
a lot of "play" or wiggle as it sits on the pin, too. I think the inner core
piece must be compromised in some way. I have a colleague who purchased one
from Schaff (which had some problems - another story) and purchased a new
redesigned inner core from somebody else (who?). But I think it was the last
one. His works great! The inner core fits all the way down on the tuning pin
close to the beckett and is reinforced. Anyway, I guess I'll keep my fingers
crossed - or just change my methods and start stringing by hand!

Take care,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
There were two different tools made by Joe Sciortino and the name
Insta-coiler has been tossed about freely for both of them. The true
Insta-coiler sits on top of a tuning pin already in the pinblock and threads
a neat and tidy coil onto it by cranking a handle. As far as I know, they
are no longer available but I'd also love to hear if there are replacements
for any or all of the parts. I've had mine for 30 years and it is one of my
most treasured tools. I use if very carefully, hoping to have it for a lot
longer..

Hi all,

Does anybody out there use the Sciortino Insta-coiler? Do you have any info
regarding the inner cores and their availability? There was a thread about
this a year or so ago and someone mentioned a better designed inner core,
but didn't know if any more would be built.

Thanks,
