Scala is supported by both the Pianoteq modeled software piano and the Garritan Steinway sampled software piano. 

 


Either can easily provide the setup that was mentioned, that is, a MIDI controller keyboard and a menu of various non-equal temperaments. I have demonstrated such a setup both with Pianoteq and the Garritan Steinway. 

 



So yes, this is most definitely "out there already".
