Try http://www.caswellplating.com/buffs/buffman.htm for lots of  
information about buffing, http://www.caswellplating.com/buffs/buffing.htm 
  for various compounds (I didn't know this, just now googled it).  
Looks like tripoli would be for a first pass, then "white" or  
"red" (jeweler's rouge) or "blue" (a different formulation of rouge).
