Hi Ric,

You tried adding mass to the bridge, via vise grips to rear bridge pins, to see if the tone improves?

Alan

Subject: [CAUT] Steinway Bell

Hi folks... all had a nice summer have we ?? :)

Got a question about the Steinway Bell thingy... Subject is a Hamburg
D, the bolt has been tightened at some point to get rid of a buzz
that ended up being related to the screw down cross strut. Buzz
fixed but this instrument has a rather thin sound.... and has for
most of its 8 year life. I'm wondering if over tightening of the bell
can cause any such tonal detriment ? It seems to just lack that
fullness of sound and the problem is most noticeble in the C4 to F6
area.... any thoughts ?

Cheers
RicB
