Yes!! I think I'll put this on a piano for faculty meeting as a joke. It might get the idea across better than so much lecturing.

At all the ferry docks in Washington, the light posts, etc have lots of little "spikes" on top of different heights 4-6".  That would be fun!

Have you ever seen those cones they put on posts in the harbor?   It keeps seagulls from having a nice flat place to land.  No I haven't tried it, just day-dreaming
