Access to the floor with Steinway practice pianos is keyed, but the keys are given to any student taking lessons or music classes. The rooms with the Steinways are all keyed the same, but separate from the the rest of the rooms. Only piano majors, including jazz piano, can get a key to these rooms. What ends up happening is students will get into a room early in the day and leave music and things to "reserve" the room for the day, leaving for several hours at a time. We have posted a policy against this, but it is rampant. Students usually do NOT lock the door behind them as they leave(unless they leave their things to "reserve" the room), so the rooms remain open for all throughout the day!

Faculty are NEVER seen on this floor by the way, so they really don't understand what's happening.
