[CAUT] VS Profelt

Hi folks,

I'm putting together an article about VS Profelt, so if you have information you'd like to share with me, please feel free to send it along.  The Central Illinois Piano Test Kitchen is conducting some experiments with it--if we can hear what you've done, we don't have to re-invent the wheel.  Of course, we will still run our tests, but I would like to include as much information as possible.

Right now, for my own business, I'm really interested in sizing center pin bushings with it.  There's this Hamilton upright at a church that I'd like to use it on, so my question is, would you mix the VS Profelt with something to get the friction level that is desired for each type of bushing (jack, wip, etc.)?

Has anyone done this?

Thanks,

Barbara Richmond

Thanks Bill.

I’m interested in HOW it works. I’ll try it on “anything felt”. I did try it on one application that failed; it looked like maybe it would size the BR hole like glue sizing… WRONG. Didn’t do a thing. I had a set of keys and glue sized ½ set and VSed the other and the VS side didn’t shrink much if any. I was mainly interested in how it affected wood, and apparently it does nothing.

Jim

Hi Jim,

I was glad to read of your results with the VS Profelt. I taught a class in our Guild chapter and was showing them what all can be done with the VS Profelt. They were all amazed. This is the best thing since sliced bread. The only thing that someone needs to remember is that yoou need to go easy with the VS Profelt and let it do it's thing. Too much and you will find that you will loosen the glue in some pianos. Try it on whippen heels, regulating buttons, etc. You will be amazed at how it can make regulating easier.

Chris, All,

I did my first set of key bushings with VS Profelt. YES! It was amazing. They felt like new.

I also tried it on some tight hammer flanges. Perfect! 3 days and the friction is still 5 compared to 12 from last week.

I don’t know who the first one was (Rick, Debbie?) but you should get a Nobel prize or something.
