[CAUT] spam

Hi all,

At UNL, we have a "spamjam" built into our system and it works really
well. I do have to check and delete each spam as it comes through. Once
in awhile a real e-mail is spammed into it,including privately sent notes
from fellow techs, so I'm glad I check. BTW, I just got one this morning
from a Frenchman who is selling a 1758 contrabassoon. Did anyone get this
one or I may need to see if it's for real?

Jim

On AOL, we have a SPAM filter that I can just click on, and the sender
will forever be blocked from my computer. (I could put you in there, if I
wanted to). See if that's available with your server.

Hi Ron,

For years I have reported spam (especially scams) to spam.gov, as you have

explained below, but have never seen any results from our government. Is
there
another address that I could use? And, how does one know if any action was

taken, or if it is just a waste of time? Most don't have the abuse thing
attached.

I'd gladly send the idiots away if I could. I get 5 or so a day.

Thanks.

Hello all,

Unsolicited junk is the curse of the medium. I routinely report one
spammer/scammer per day to either our Australian authority which
deals with it, or the server of origin if they have an abuse@****
address.

For example, Gmail seems to be rotten with scammer accounts. You can
open the offending email, click the "blah, blah blah" button to
include the entire headers so that the server can identify the
scammer, then forward it to abuse at gmail.com.

They'll usually close the account.

If we all did one per day the scoundrels might well be hunted from the
web.
