[CAUT] S&S Hammers and lacquer

I seem to recollect, that someone asked a Steinway employee, about lacquer, and he said they always used something, and if they didn't have lacquer they used shellac.
I don't know where, or if I am remembering correctly. Also it could be reversed.

Steinway has a room filled with spec books, detailing the production procedures used throughout the years. It may be possible to research these books and find a reference to lacquer in the hammers or not.
