Maybe you could make something like this:

In my laundry room, er, shop, I currently have a lid sitting on a table, protected on both sides with moving blankets.  I still have a place to fold laundry!  This is useful information for those of you who do your laundry at work...

  Anybody have any lid storage racks that are easy to build and compacts the storge area yet is easy to access and won't damage lthe finish? That's not asking too much, is it? 

  My mentor has overhead space that is wide open. Supports can be hung from the roof structure.
