[CAUT] bass strings

Hi Wim

Winding variances in Bass strings can affect the overall density of the
individual string affecting both timber and inharmonicity of the
string. I suppose flattened winding in some areas of the string can
affect both tho I am uncertain of the mechanism. My guess is that you
have more a problem of less then well spun bass strings in general more
then you have anything else. Mis matching of bi-chords doesn't need to
be all that drastic for some folks to react quite a bit. It may even be
voice-able enough to satisfy him. Or it may be a bit more severe and
of a character that just plain doesn't bother you and does him.

Put your best voicing ears on... assume he is right... and play
chromatics up and down through the area with different touches ....
looking and feeling carefully for any unevenness you can find. You
might also check overtones of each string he points at with your ETD to
see if there is any obvious mismatch.

Cheers
RicB
