Always interesting to hear variant points of view on piano sound. I havent had the chance to hear a full sized Shigeru yet. But I just visited the home of a student from the Oslo conservatory who is back in town preparing for her masters exam. She related that the conservatory over there purchased a new Shigeru concert grand amoung about 20 other brand new instruments... mostly Hamburg D's. After about a year of evaluation the Shigeru has been put aside and is hardly ever used even for practice. Same thing happened to a Fazioli that was there a few years back. We do have some CF III fans in the country... but their numbers are few. Myself... I'm always split on these kinds of issues. Personally I favour as much variety as is possible. But objectively I see what the world at large chooses and at least part of why they do. Despite that... if I had my way I just know I'd order an Overs concert grand for UiB on the spot... :) Cheers RicB > We have a 9' Shigeru, a CF and a Hamburg and a NY D. Artists don't always choose Steinways, and it's nice to have variety for students to compare/contrast. Jim: I'm jealous of your selection there - particularly the Shigeru! How has that one done? The one that was here at the Dallas PTG convention blew me away. dp David M. Porritt, RPT dporritt at smu.edu
