[CAUT] gorilla glue

Jim,

Try a pair of hand pruning shears, the kind with a straight blade &
anvil.  You want the type with the striaght blade (sharpened evenly on
both sides) so it cuts in the direction you want it to.  The anvil on
the other side will keep thing more or less square.  I use the shears to
do some of the clean-up on the sides of the shanks as well.  It will
take a bit of work, but even the most stubborn will come off pretty well.
