I kind of think the smart heater bar is an unnecessary evil in an institutional setting where the systems are regularly serviced and the pads regularly replaced. I quit ordering those for the school. I've seen pads that the owner was unaware needed replacing working just fine 7 and 8 years after installation (not one of my jobs, and the system was installed incorrectly, and the owner had never heard of humidifier treatment) -- nasty though they were. I realize what the smart heater bar is for, but I think it's way over kill in an institutional setting, especially when there's a tech on staff.
