I attended the Steinway factory seminar back in the late 80's when Bill Garlick was at the factory. Bill was on a bit of a tear back them about the agraffe spacing. The factory was using old and worn out templates for the drilling. I'm not sure how far he got in his arguments. At that time, Steinway made the agraffes in the old plate foundry building. Not sure about today. I concur with Fred regarding better quality today.
