Several years back, I called Yamaha with a broken bass string request, and the rep and I got to chatting about that I'd replaced this same bass string on a number of P22s which was breaking at the coil where sharp angle from pin to capo made the wire jump the coil - although he debated with me that was why, and indicated this was not even the string with the highest incidence of breakage - also not consistent with my experience at the time. They do indeed keep records of which bass strings break most often and offered to send me the "rescaled" strings for those I was replacing often. What information of that they will share, I don't know.
