[CAUT] Differences?

Dear friends,

This whole topic makes me very uncomfortable. I know that it was started in good faith, by someone wondering about why different pianotech students behaved differently. But think about it: suppose we were all having a cheerful discussion on whether Catholics made better/worse techs, or people from Eastern Europe, or native Americans. This discussion, about whether women make better/worse techs, is the same kind of thing. If the question were actually scholarly, we'd need a great big sample. All we have here are anecdotes and personal opinions. It makes me squirm.

Thirty years ago, in college, I was asked in French class to "explain the women's point of view." I don't like the approach any better now.
