I've been using it on and off for a few weeks - comparing with the "box". I
had an older Axim X5 and it runs, but I've needed to overclock the unit
(speed stepper) which brings the speed up to 472 mhz. I'm on the second
software version as Dave is still working on getting everything up and
running.

I like the instant on, even though I have to step through the overclocking
screens first. I imported all of my tunings and custom styles from the box
- even though the screen is smaller, it seems clearer and has been easy to
view. I haven't done many new tunings with it because I experienced some
problems that I figured to be related to using a slower unit. (Using a
saved tuning recalls the partial targets from the box and then listens to as
many partials as the machine can handle to set the spinner/needle motion.)

As to the number of partials - that depends on the speed of your machine....
so if you are getting a new one, get a fast one! Even with my slow machine
it's able to use 8 partials from the bottom up to around A3 - where it drops
to 4. I think there are only 2 by A6.

The tunings have been fine, though after my first attempts, I haven't run
them "head to head" - I'm hoping to get to that soon.
