Don Steinway & Sons and Oberlin Conservatory of Music Present Concert and Technical Strategies For Institutional Technicians For the third consecutive year, Steinway & Sons and Oberlin =20 Conservatory of Music are pleased to offer a Seminar entitled, =20 Concert and Technical Strategies For Institutional Technicians, to be =20= held the week of July 9-14, 2006, at Oberlin Conservatory of Music in =20= Oberlin, Ohio. This Seminar will provide an educational opportunity =20 that is unique in character, content, and practical hands=96on =20 experience in one of the largest and most prestigious music schools =20 in the United States. The Oberlin Conservatory of Music, home to 199 =20 Steinway grand pianos, is Steinway=92s oldest continuous client and has =20= been an all-Steinway school since 1877. The seminar will focus on the ways that institutional =20 technicians approach Steinway pianos which are not only under =20 constant use, but which also must meet high-level performance =20 requirements in studios and on the concert stage. The Conservatory =20 facilities will be used extensively, from working on studio pianos to =20= listening to the concert instruments of the Conservatory concert venues. Each day will begin with a lecture addressing regulating, tuning and =20 voicing in the university setting. Particular attention will be paid =20 to maintaining Steinway & Sons instruments. Each attendee will work =20 on a piano in the school, under supervision of the instructors from =20 both the Conservatory and Steinway & Sons in New York. Additionally there will be afternoon discussions that will address =20 particular aspects of the institutional technician=92s duties. There =20 will also be evening lectures, musical presentations and social time. The instructors from Oberlin Conservatory will be; John Cavanaugh, =20 Director of Piano Technology, Robert Murphy Curator of Forte Pianos =20 and Piano Technician and Ken Sloan Director of Piano Technology =96 =20 Emeritus. Technicians from Steinway & Sons, New York will be Ed Wedberg, =20 Assistant Head Technician of the Concert Department at Steinway Hall =20 in New York City, and Eric Schandall, Administrator of Technical =20 Training and Education.
