David, Ron, others, You're probably right (gut feeling) that it is the board. I put some punchings (3mm) under the hitch and got the downbearing close to zero. No tonal change. Ron's vertical hitch pins are going to at least let me play with bearing easier. Ron suggested I float the liner. I might try that. Also, what about routing a trench (what's that really called?) like Overs does? One last thing, what about lightening the bridge? It's got quite a bit of mass. I've seen holes drilled, etc. Just a reminder to all about this thread; I'm looking for a way to improve these 1098s w/o Major work. Something we might all benefit from.
