Dr. Birkett, The ideal piano you describe would have to have the same length strings, ie single-strung. At some level of friction the different non-speaking lengths on each end could become a problem for unison stability. You would also want pretty stiff tuning pins, not the kind utilized in Boston uprights. Interesting idea... Andrew Anderson
