[CAUT] vertical hammers

Well, speaking of vertical hammers, why is it that they aren't bored all the
way through like grands? I have seen some that are, but obviously most
aren't. If I had to guess it would be because of the bass angle bore coming
through the corner of the hammer. But I 'm curious about it. Anyone know?
