Another item to throw into the mix.
Find out from the orchestra what time slot (if any) they wish to use 
before the performance.
This will let you plan on when to start the p/r & tuning or split it 
around their rehearsal.

If the performance is at 8:00 and they want to rehearse between 2 and 
5 or 1 and 4 (just grabbing
numbers out of the air) you'll have some time management to do. I 
hate it when they leave you
'scrap' time and you're finishing up as people are coming in or being 
held in the lobby and getting
the impatient glares from the frequently appearing usher.

Why wouldn't they want you on hand during the performance in case of 
a touch-up during intermission?
