just in time

Last Monday I decided to restring the D in the Choral Rehearsal room, and I
had signed out the room fro the entire week. In fact, there was nothing
scheduled in there next week, so I thought I could take my time, and make sure
everything was done right.

By Wednesday afternoon I had all the string back on, gave it it's first chip
tuning, hung the dampers, and gave it a quick first tuning. Before I left, I
started to rehang the hammers. On Thursday morning I finished the hammers, and
gave the piano it's second tuning. But then I got a phone call.

At 3 o'clock on Thursday the office secretary called to say that on Saturday
we're auditioning a choral director, in the choral rehearsal room, with a
practice for the pick up chorus on Friday evening.

So much for taking my time. By Friday afternoon, I had the action regulated,
hammers voiced, and the piano up to pitch and stable.

I just got back from the "dress rehearsal," and not to brag, but the piano
sounded great. I will be in there at 9:30 tomorrow to give it one more tuning,
but I think it will be OK.

Not something I want to do every week, but it sure kept me busy the last
couple of days.
