Ok. Here's the latest version of the checklist. Great suggestions from
several of you. This will definitely take more supervision, but in the
long-term more useful. I hope. It will be interesting to see what I think in
3 months.

Hey Wim, sometimes it just takes educating folks.

At the start of every school year when I was on staff at a university, I
would send out a very welcoming, upbeat memo to the staff and faculty. It
contained information on care of the pianos and what information I needed
from them to schedule service for studios, classrooms and concerts. I also
asked the director of the school of music to put the subject on the faculty
meeting agenda (just in case they didn't read my memo). To reach the
students with whatever information I wanted them to have, I made various
posters and placed them in practice rooms, back stage and in the student
lounge area. Every once in a while I would need to squeak, but tried to be
nice about it. :-)

It has been our experience at ASU that students treat the pianos better when

we keep up the finish as well as the inside. Besides, we like our pianos
looking good.

Thanks for the answer Rick. I don't know if that will work here at UA. Hell,
even our brand new B and D on the stage get treated like they are desks.
Within a week after we received our new B two years ago, which is in the
recital hall, also used by the music appreciation classes, one of our TA's
scratched up the top when he put his briefcase on it, and slid it off at the
end of the session.
