I don't see anything to be gained by argument either. There is room for everyone and all styles. I wouldn't even want everybody tuning exactly like me, and tend to avoid much discussion about the details anymore. The tuner is responsible for the tuning. It is your call on how to do the best that you can for any given situation. If you succeed- may someone appreciate it. If you fail, they might consider a different option next time, but hopefully you have learned something. That is business and it happens every day. If a tuner is to consider themselves a master at the trade, it seems reasonable to expect that they should have an assortment of appropriate options available to them in their mental tuning bag. Even if that knowledge is seldom used, it is a rich history we can be proud of and learn from. I think a lot of people forget that even though we must stick to ET for Examinations, those subtle Victorian jobs and plenty of the well temperaments, would pass the ET exam easily.
