I'd like to see a zoom out shot of this... just to see a bit more of the
surrounding area. But from the picture the existing crack does not look so
severe, or critical. The process of tearing down and rebuilding tho may
change that situation.... depending on the crack really.  If you get it out
ok, there are several welding techniques described in the archives that
have been reported to satisfactorilly repair some pretty extreme plate
cracks... so this should be a piece of cake I would think.

Maybe... maybe not so maybe. A good hunch tho. I'd like to hear what you
find under there when you get that far tho.
