I have used that radius in the past but have found that 2.5" works more
consistently.  SO much so that I take each hammer off the rail and use a
jig that has a nail at 2.5" to rotate the shank against.  I then can
check the pinning before screwing it back on the rail.  Half the
distance from center pin to hammer center line is a great rule of thumb.
