I finally had a chance to tune the bottom octave for the professor who wanted
to hear the 1st partial of the bottom octave. (Remember, he played c1 while
holding down c2, to listen for the overtones).

I showed him the e-mails I got from you guys, and argued every one of them.
So I tuned the bottom octave so that more of the 1st partial could be heard
in the note held down. The most effected notes were f1 on down. This
happened to coincide with the notes in the bass. (This is on B.)

After tuning these notes so that an overtone could he heard, he had to admit
he didn't like the way the octave sounded. (as was predicted by Jeff). So I
retuned the notes.

The next step is to try to get funding for a new set of hammers. He thinks
maybe that will give him the results he's looking for. (as Scott suggested).

I'll keep you posted.
