No kidding! About ten years ago I managed to get approval to spend $1500 or so putting "half units" on 20 - 30 pianos (humidistat plus one heating unit). That produced a very noticeable improvement. This summer I have three full units on order, as soon as the fiscal year is over (we're all frozen until then due to ever increasing fiscal crises). I'm planning to gradually install 10 - 15 in specific locations over the next few years, as budget allows (and there's no slack whatsoever there). Ten years ago I spoke at length to the then new Dean of Fine Arts, lobbying to re-activate the original equipment humidity control in the building. I went at him again five years ago when a large capital project had been approved to overhaul three major performance venues in the building (one being the department recital hall, others in dance and a separate public events venue), hoping to have humidity control piggybacked onto that project. Didn't happen. However, just this spring I was told that a revamp of HVAC is in the offing, next major capital project round, and that humidity control is part of the planned project. So long term persistence pays off (I hope, crossing my fingers). My situation is not half bad compared to some. I have heard many descriptions of 15% - 90% variance (meaning low of 15%, high of 90%), mostly with contract techs in horrible overload conditions.
