Richard Goode most likely will ask to have the soft pedal set so it ticks, just barely, the left string. He may also wish to have the sustain pedal with no lost motion. The first point requires that the travel and spacing of the hammers must be incredibly exact and most usually the very edge of the hammers will need voicing to reduce stridency.
