Hello Ed, After coming back from John's class,I have beening think using the old rail. plug the old holes and turn the rail 90 degrees(to the hammer side so it won't show) and them drill it.here is everything you need to do. 1,Mark the old rail so it will faciliate you installing (sodering) later, 2,plug the screw holes, 4,drill new holes.,using the old holes as a guide. You can modifie the old holes if the original one has lots of room to be improved. 5,install the new bored rail. Every one tried this? if not, I am going to try it.
