Hi Michael, Strads *don't* sound better than every other violin of expert craftsmanship. Further they are *not* as originally designed having been greatly modified with a longer neck on a different angle with a much oversize bass bar, not to mention the difference in bridge design and string materials. But the public goes gaga over the words "he owns a Strad". Much the same thing happens in the piano world when you say Steinway. I'm sure you may have come across a "Steinway" that was less than wonderful. We all know there are a few truely great instruments, whatever their make may be.
