---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment (Amplifying on Newton's explanation, and Roger's): When shimming the backrail to fit the dags, shim on the __top__ of the rail - in other words, the contact surface. Usually the routine is: scrape the surface heavily to remove lubricants and get to a fresh surface; then glue on maple veneer; then usually sand or scrape lightly to get a perfect (doesn't bind, doesn't rattle) fit. Finally, relubricate; I prefer dry moly. There's no change to the relationship between key-end felt and damper lever, and usually not much change to anything else in the regulating, except for stabilizing it all. - Tom McNeil - Vermont Piano Restorations In a message dated 2/5/01 3:03:56 PM Eastern Standard Time, jonpage@mediaone.net writes: > If you shim the backrail, you'll have to trim the key end lifter felt to > maintain underlever juxtaposition. > > ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
