Privacy in the workplace

Is the computer yours, or the schools? If it is the schools you must use
it according to their policy. The use of pass words should be explicitly
given in a policy statement. I worked in a secondary school, (not as a
piano technician) and pass words left over from personel who didn't come
back next fall was a MAJOR problem. From this prospective I can see how
the computer system or network person MUST know ALL passwords.
I wouldn't worry about sharing your password with someone who has
authority to request such information. If the computer is not your
personal property or it is but you are using their lines, you have no
choice really. Besides I saw a demonstration on TV of software that
hacked the reporter's lap top password in less than 10 seconds. For this
alone I think it is better to hold off indicating mistrust of your
supervisor. If not, at best, all she will tell you is to go see her boss.
Which is where you will end up anyway if you protest her request. If it
is like protesting a "denial of credit" I had to do as non trad. student,
you are in for quite a round of apppointments.

ps If she can really play hard ball one day you will simply have an
"Access denied" message across your screen and another one telling you
where to go....... to get straightened out. Ask Horace about this he
should know....
